Summary

A small ring ditch of unknown date is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. Its size suggests it may relate to the site of an Iron Age or Roman roundhouse, rather than a Bronze Age round barrow, although the latter interpretation cannot be ruled out. The ring ditch is surrounded by an extensive spread of cropmarks chiefly relating to Brampton Roman town (NHER 66780 and related), and may indicate an earlier phase of occupation, or instead relate to a structure associated with the town.

The small ring ditch of unknown date described above is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S3). Contrary to the information given above, it lies to the south of the Roman road referred to as the ‘Fen Causeway’ (NHER 66782), not to the north. The size of the ring ditch suggests it may relate to the site of an Iron Age or Roman roundhouse, rather than a Bronze Age round barrow, although the latter interpretation cannot be ruled out. The ring ditch is surrounded by an extensive spread of cropmarks chiefly relating to Brampton Roman town (NHER 66780 and related), and may indicate an earlier phase of occupation, or instead relate to a structure associated with the town.
