Summary

Fieldwalking and metal detecting between 1993 to 1996 recovered a large quantity of prehistoric flint, possibly indicating a flint working site. Amongst other objects found were Roman, medieval and post medieval pottery fragments and a Saxon box mount.

1995. Fieldwalking enlarges this area, Context 2, with pot boilers, more than a hundred flints including early Neolithic, Roman, medieval and post medieval pottery.

October 1996. Metal detecting.
Flanged box/stirrup mount with triangular plate with relief-cast upward looking animal, trefoil terminal at apex with rivet hole.
Slightly incomplete basal flange has single central rivet hole containing remains of iron rivet. Larger area of iron staining on reverse of flange. 9th century. (S1), (S2) and (S3).
