Map

9 July 1992. NLA aerial photography.
Possible enclosure ditch adjacent to broad.
D. Edwards (NLA).

19 June 1996. NLA aerial photography.
Enclosure to west of yacht club still visible.
Within the interior there appears to be a cluster of large rounded pits, although these could be geological deposits.
However they do appear quite distinct and anthropogenic. To the west a second enclosure can be seen, again incomplete due to modern development. The remaining section appears rectilinear and is located at NGR TG 3053 1863.
To the immediate west of this, in the very corner of the field, is a ring ditch, half sectioned by the field boundary and road.
S. Massey (NLA), 14 August 2001.

A cropmark of an incomplete rectilinear enclosure is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4). The central grid reference for this cropmark has been adjusted from TG 3062 1670 to TG 3075 1669. Cropmarks of another rectilinear enclosure, a ring ditch and linear ditches that were previously recorded under this number are now recorded separately as NHER 49163-5. The enclosure appears to be rectangular in plan with rounded corners and internal dimensions of 89m by at least 44m. It is defined on its southwest, northwest and northeast sides by a 3m wide ditch. The southeast side of the enclosure is not visible as a cropmark. A 4m wide gap present in the ditch at the northern corner of the enclosure may be an entrance. Inside the enclosure are cropmarks of three sub-circular pits with diameters of approximately 5m. These three pits are arranged in an equilateral triangle. A smaller sub-oval or rectangular pit is present halfway between the large pits on each side. Further small pits are present to the southwest and northeast of the triangular group. The function and date of these pits is not known, although it is likely that they are related to the enclosure. The date of the enclosure is also unknown but it appears to have been located on the edge of an area of marsh that now forms Wroxham Broad. However, the exact relationship between the two is not visible and it is impossible to determine whether or not the peat cutting that created the broad also cut away part of the enclosure.
J. Albone (NMP), 30 November 2006.
