NHER 30621 (Monument record) - Site of undated road

The postulated road described above is visible as soil and cropmarks on aerial photographs (S2)-(S4), between TM 3420 9771 and TM 3387 9751. It may represent an earlier course of the modern footpath it meets at its southern end, which is also depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S5). The marks are rather poorly defined and intermittent, and although it seems likely that there was a trackway or similar feature here, the marks seem too disparate to have been part of something as uniform as a road. Its northeastern end has been mapped only by extent, as it is difficult to tell whether it is showing as a bank or ditch (or both); it may be of recent agricultural origin.
