Pale marks apparently indicating mounds, one large feature at south end, group at north end. One at the north east corner seemed to be divided into four quadrants by ditches. Saltern mounds occur in this area.

A group of cropmarks, probably saltern mounds of unknown date, are visible on aerial photographs (S1). The central grid reference of these cropmarks has been adjusted from TG 5095 1105 to TG 5093 1096. They are located on the drained marshland of the River Bure at a height of about 1m OD. The northernmost mounds in the group lie within 120m of the higher ground to the north. A total of 11 irregular cropmarks are visible indicating the presence of possible saltern mounds. They vary in size and shape, with the largest being up to 78m long by 14m wide. The mound described above as being cut into four quadrants by ditches is more likely four separate small mounds as it does not appear as regular as originally suggested. The date of this group of probable saltern mounds is uncertain. It is possible that they are of medieval date as 45 salt houses are recorded at Caister in the Domesday Book (S2). However, an earlier Roman or Saxon date need not be excluded.
