Summary

No 2 is a timber-framed building constructed in the early 17th century, with a facade of 18th-century first floor windows and 19th-century shop fronts. Inside, the attic section of a winding staircase by the stack remains, and some rafters of the original roof.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Two shops with flats, now single premises. Early 17th century with 18th-, 19th- and 20th-century alterations. Timber-framed with brick skin. Principal part to west with black glazed pantiles, remainder plaintiles. Two storeys with dormer attic. Both elements with late 19th-century plate glass shop fronts and doors under prominent fascia boards with box brackets. Two late 18th-century three-light casements to first floor of both elements...Gabled roof of different pitches….Painted brick later 18th-century two-storey extensions run south down Damgate.
INTERIOR. Ground-floor front area with wave-moulded bridging beam, probably re-used. Jowled principal studs, arched wall braces in south-east corner and a sunk-quadrant moulded tie beam to first floor. Of winder to south of stack only attic flight remains. West roof of clasped purlins and collars. Boarded at this level. East roof replaced 1980."
