Summary

Nos 18 and 20 have a 19th-century brick skin, which hides a late 16th-century timber-frame. The fine cruciform chamfered bridging beams and the structure of the roof rafters indicate a date of around 1580.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Pair of shops. Late 16th-century timber frame with early 19th-century brick skin and mid-19th-century double-fronted plate-glass shop front to right. Two storeys. Pantiled roof, black glazed to front...Gabled roof with an internal gable-end stack to east.
INTERIOR. Cruciform chamfered bridging beams with tongue stops to ground floor. Jowled principal studs to first floor and cruciform chamfered bridging beams. Several late 17th-century two-panel doors with HL hinges. Clasped purlin roof with curved windbraces."
