Summary

The NAU carried out an archaeological investigation during the replacement of the south wall of the Millfleet in 1994. The investigation revealed the 16th and 17th century timber quays which were surrounded by dumped material which included medieval building material.

Examination to determine the condition and stability of the timber and masonry sections of the south side of the Millfleet. The timber and plank wall was found to be in a dilapidated condition and the brick wall was found to be unstable and unsound.

1994. Watching Brief and Excavation.
Watching brief and small-scale excavation during replacement of south wall of Millfleet at Boal Street.
16th- and 17th-century timber quays revealed, surrounded by dumped material including medieval building material and token, and much 17th- to 19th-century material.
