Summary

A very rare example of a Second World War Norcon pillbox survives as an extant structure and has been recorded on the ground. This is one of five such structures now identified in Docking, which is one of only two places in the county where pillboxes of this type are known to have been erected (see NHERs 30778, 57853, 58229 and 65268 for details of the other Docking examples). Docking was a category ‘A’ nodal point during the war (NHER 69317), and various anti-invasion defences were constructed at strategic locations around the village. This particular pillbox stands within Docking Park (NHER 30502).
