Summary

This is an Elizabethan timber framed house possibly originally built as a shop against the street with a ground floor hall behind and chambers above. Originally there was a contemporary, or perhaps older, detached timber framed building at the rear. This has now been incorporated into the building facing the street. The complex was remodelled to form an inn in the late 18th century. 20th century additions include a Samson post and a reset horse gin shaft.
