October 1994. Field Observation.
Formerly the Lion and Unicorn Cottages, The Green (Market Place).
Building containing a remarkably grand and large 16th century ceiling of carved beams that may well have come from elsewhere and had the house built round it.
Other sections of reused moulded beams also noted.
Present layout seems to be a late 17th century three cell house divided into three cottages and refaced about 1800; supposedly at one time a public house.
Clare House mostly rebuilt mid 20th century.
One piece of reused ashlar, probably a late insertion.
See report (S2) for further details.
E. Rose (NLA), October 1994.
