Summary

A systematic fieldwalking survey of this field in 1994/1995 recovered a possible Mesolithic flint microlith, a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged arrowhead and a range of undatable prehistoric worked flints. A small number of Roman pottery sherds, a tessara and a post-medieval coin were also found. Metal-detecting in 1996 recovered a Roman brooch and a possible medieval belt fitting.

?Prehistoric burnt flints ('pot boilers').
87 prehistoric worked flints, 3 spalls, 1 blade, 3 cores, 1 core trimming flake, 5 notched flakes, 12 retouched flakes, 15 scrapers, 2 ?scrapers, 1 combination tool (notched scraper) and 2 knives.
1 ?Mesolithic ?microlith.
1 Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged arrowhead.
4 Roman pottery sherds (3 greyware and 1 colour coated) and 1 tessera.
1 post-medieval coin.

1996. Metal-detecting. [1].
1 Roman Colchester one-piece brooch, spring missing, together with much of catchplate. Surface pitted. Thin tapering bow. 1st century AD.
1 ?medieval possible belt fitting. Hook with baluster mouldings and knob terminals, possibly broken at one end.
