Full Description
Unaltered since plan published in 1886.
Three yards added to older threshing barn; for horses, cows and bullocks. Surrounded by shelter sheds and loose boxes with feeding passages and hatches behind, a style otherwise unknown in Norfolk but common on Stafford estates.
Information from (S1).
E. Rose (NLA) 13 January 1995.
[1] states that the farmhouse has been listed because of moulded beams, perhaps reused, but not the farm buildings.
E. Rose (NLA) 1 October 1998.
(S2) dates the building to the late 16th century, extended mid 18th, remodelled 19th. Flint and ironstone rubble with brick dressings; rear wall 19th century brick. Late 16th century chimneystack to right and at left end, truncated. Three cell plan, extended to an L-shape.
Front range interior has 19th century features, ovolo moulded beams, early 16th century foliate carved beams, a late 14th-early 15th century carved beam and scribed 16th century joists whereas the rear room has 18th century details. Listing suggests the carved beams come from West Dereham abbey but this would seem debateable - why not the original manor, of which the gatehouse survives to north?
E. Rose (NLA) 22 October 1998.
2001. Building Survey.
Detailed record by [2] in advance of conversion to residential.
See report (S4) for further details.
E. Rose (NLA) 19 January 2001.
(S3) in file indicate a possible cross-passage layout.
E. Rose (NLA) 9 June 2006.
