Full Description
October 1994-March 1995. Systematic Fieldwalking Survey.
Fieldwalking in advance of development (Field D):
?Prehistoric burnt flints ('pot boilers').
14 prehistoric flint flakes, 1 shatter fragment, 1 blade, 1 ?core, 1 notched flake, 6 retouched flakes and 1 side scraper.
3 Roman pottery sherds (2 greyware and 1 refired reduced sherd).
6 medieval pottery sherds (3 glazed Grimston, 1 glazed and 2 unglazed), 6 roof tiles, 1 glazed floor tile and 1 biconical lead weight.
878 post-medieval (or later) pottery sherds and 549 clay tobacco pipe fragments.
1 undatable pottery sherd (oxidised).

Roman brooch, crescent type Aesica.
Possible Roman decorated toilet article, rounded dished terminal engraved on one face with herringbone motif.
Medieval shield-shaped harness pendant, cross saltire indented (red enamel intact). See (S2).
Bronze casting jet, uncertain date.
Circular uniface lead weight. Two shields with circle. Commonwealth (1649-60) 23.61g. Obverse reads 80/HP across head. Reverse depicts ship with rose.
Square bronze Amsterdam coin weight for ryal (rose noble) 15th century, 3.31g.

Iron Age possible harness fitting, very worn, possibly by continual rubbing with leather strap.

Cropmarks visible of extensive linear ditch running southwest to northeast across the site.
Several smaller linears are perpendicular to this, abutting it.
These features appear to relate to land division, probably field boundaries (see NHER 52038).
