Full Description
Defensive structure. In corner of small copse.
Red brick oblong building with concrete roof aligned east to west.
Door to east, two high small windows to west.
Resembles Home Guard structures but probably connected with airfield to east.
E. Rose (NLA) 7 April 1995.
See record form in file by source [1], who adds:
Common World War Two Home Guard Station. Heavily overgrown.
Survey No. J4-1.
D. Walker (NLA) July 1996.
Before August 2022. Oral History Research.
[2] states that the structure is a Home Guard ammunitions store sited to ensure a good supply of ammunition in the event of an invasion from the east. Such structures were used to store ammunition, explosives and inflammables.
A similar example can be found in Fincham at [3] and is recorded under NHER 65745. [2] states that this was the secondary and back-up supply store for the Fincham Home Guard.
Other examples elsewhere in Norfolk are recorded under NHER 30780 and NHER 32390.
See correspondence (S1).
