Summary

This 17th or 18th century house has later additions and alterations. The development of this building has been interpreted in several different ways. One interpretation suggests that a house was built during the 16th century and in the 17th or early 18th century the exisiting building was constructed and attached to it. The original house was demolished in the late 18th century, except for one wall which survives as the south wall of the standing building. At the same time the 17th/18th century building was converted for domestic use.

Monitoring and survey work undertaken after building stripped down and during construction of extension.
Suggests that it is an early 18th century agricultural building formed of reused older timbers, the south wall alone being a 16th century end wall of an older house to the south. He sees the upper floor and stack as late 18th century insertions at the time of conversion to domestic use, with the cross wall being brought in in one piece from elsewhere.
