Summary

Metal detecting between 1995 and 2022 recovered a ?Mesolithic/Early Neolithic flint blade; a Neolithic to Bronze Age flint flake, scraper and blade; a Late Iron Age/Roman coin of Roman issue; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval to post-medieval jettons; post-medieval tokens and Middle/Late Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include fragments of a Middle-Late Bronze Age copper alloy cauldron; Early Saxon brooches and a sword-pommel cap; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval ferrule, purse bar, key, book fitting, drop handle from copper alloy vessel, copper ally seal matrix and copper alloy and lead weights; a medieval/post-medieval knife handle, purse fragment, candlestick, thimble, copper alloy vessel handle and pair of dividers and post-medieval coin weights, book clasps, thimble, harness mount, bell, powder charge cap or measure, lead weight and lead cloth seals. A small excavation in 2015 demonstrated that the Middle-Late Bronze Age copper alloy cauldron had originally been buried within a pit. No other finds were recovered during this work.
