Summary

Excavations in Common Place as part of Little Walsingham Cobble Survey (NHER 37101) demonstrated that the cobbles had been raised in the 19th century using iron slag.

February-March 1995.
Excavations in car park formerly part of Common Place or Common Pump Place revealed that the street
level here had been raised by 0.9m in the 19th century using iron slag. No earlier cobbles were found beneath. The cobbled street surfaces of the town need not predate around 1800.
