Summary

Metal-detecting in 1994 recovered part of an unusual Stutzarnfibel style Early Saxon small-long brooch from the 5th century, and the arm of a medieval balance. Roman coins were also found. Fieldwalking as part of the Holkham Estate Survey recovered a scatter of prehistoric burnt and worked flints and pieces of Iron Age, Roman and medieval pot. Metal-detecting in 2010 recovered Roman coins, Iron Age/Roman, Romano-British, Early Saxon, Middle Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval metal objects including an Iron Age/Roman unidentified object and a post-medieval end-cap from an iron scale-tang knife.

Early Saxon very unusual head plate of small-long brooch, with knob at top in the round, and three ring-and-dots in a transverse row and border of stamped annulets. H-shaped lug on reverse, (S1). Stutzarnfibel 5th century, (S2).
Medieval arm of balance, facetted central knob, one arm sheared off. Other has pierced triangular terminal with a wire ring looped in it, (S3).

2000. Systematic Fieldwalking Survey.
Non-collection fieldwalking undertaken as part of archaeological assessment of Holkham Estate (Field 1).
Finds of four periods were recovered, along with a few pieces of undated tile. These were:
Thin scatter of flint flakes towards the eastern end of the field. There was also a concentration of burnt flints, probably prehistoric.
Two modest concentrations of coarse black flint-gritted sherds, probably Iron Age.
A scatter of coarse grey-ware sherds at the east end of the field, Roman.
Two sherds pottery, medieval.
