Milestone.
By road to south of Greenhouse Park.
Stone, with cornice and chamfered sides. Incised 'Norwich 12 miles Holt 11 miles' and 'Blickling'.
Interesting as an example not connected with a turnpike road, but apparently erected by owners of Hall.
(S1) dates to 19th century, and dates NHER 31288 as 18th century, though both seem identical.
Comp. E.Rose 6 July 1995.

One of 3 surviving milestones placed on the Aylsham to Saxthorpe sideroad of the Norwich to Cromer turnpike, marking Norwich 13 miles and Holt 10 miles.
These milestones date from just after the original creation of the turnpike, as it is likely that they are the remainder of the set created for the Turnpike by Mr John Ivory in 1796.
(S2) contains information about this and other milestones on this turnpike.
D. Holburn (HES), 9 January 2012.
