Square cropmarks - Roman turbaries?

Examination of available aerial imagery for proposed route of Anglian Water Etton/Grantham to Bexwell pipeline.
An extensive area of probable peat cuttings (turbaries) are visible as cropmarks at this location on (S1) and recent Google Earth aerial imagery (S2). They are arranged in a semi-regular compartmentalised grid pattern, blocks of which are demarcated by wider rectilinear boundaries 2-3m in width. These broader boundaries continue to the west and south (where they are recorded as NHER 32067), suggesting the compartmentalised grid pattern extended across a wider area.
