Summary

A large, roughly rectangular shallow depression can be seen on NLA aerial photographs from 1974, 1977 and 1998 and on RAF aerial photographs from 1946. It seems likely to be the remains of a post medieval pond. Its location appears to coincide with the pond or lake shown on Biederman’s map of 1789 – presumably associated with Warham Hall.

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
A large, roughly rectangular shallow depression can be seen on NLA aerial photographs from 1974 (S3), 1977 (S4) and 1998 (S5) and on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S6). It measures approximately 205m x 20m (running from TF9426 4134 to TF9441 4148). It is likely to be the remains of a post medieval pond. Its location appears to coincide with the pond or lake shown on Biederman’s map of 1789 (S1). It is located beyond the south end of a field that used to contain Church Wood and was presumably associated with Warham Old Hall (NHER 1843).
H. Clare (NMP), 30 April 2003.
