Summary

Extensive metal detection at this location from 1995 to 2006 recovered a wealth of metal objects dating to multiple periods. The many artefacts retrieved include a Mesolithic or Early Neolithic flint blade, forty-five Roman coins, an Early Saxon cruciform brooch decorated with a horse-head and a Henry III halfpenny.

1995. Metal detector finds.
At location [1]. Early Saxon small-long brooch with three pelta-shape lappets, each with a transverse line and a row of stamped double triangles. Bow with facets. Foot missing, single lug.
At location [2]. Medieval strap end buckle and plate (secured over integral forked spacer plate). 'Ogee' buckle frame.

1995. Metal detector find at location [3].
10th century Borre disc brooch (S3), with similar features to one from location [4], but less well done (spirals at ends of 'knots' are a bit crude). Central cruciform motif is similar to the one from location [4] - not sure if seen exactly that one before. Lug and cathplate on reverse.

Early Saxon cruciform brooch, narrow bit with surviving half round top knob (side knobs not present). Lovely horse-head with comma notrils.
