Summary

Metal detecting here from 1995-2003 retrieved a variety of multi period metal objects. The best find was a fine enamelled Saxon disc brooch, but other finds such as a Roman Dragonesque brooch, early post medieval buckle frame and a medieval D-shaped buckle frame were also recorded.

1995. Metal detector find.
Headplate of Early Saxon small-long brooch, central knob in the round with transverse mouldings. Knob is separately made and has ribbed arm extending over headplate. Pierced lug on reverse.

1996. Metal detector finds.
Dragonesque brooch late 1st century-175?
Identified by D. Mackreth July 1996. Polaroid (S2) in file.
At location [1]. Early post medieval 16th century buckle frame, rectangular. Central bar with iron staining. Deeply diagonal grooves on outer edges.

1997. Metal detector find.
13th/14th century D-shaped buckle frame. Recessed pin swivel bar. Knops either side of ridge pin seat. Folded sheet plate with recess for pin swivel. Two attachment studs in plate.
