Summary

Metal detecting here in 1995-96 recovered part of a Roman Aesica brooch along with a medieval openwork sword chape and early post medieval end cap from a knife and coin.

September/October 1995. Metal detector find.
Medieval openwork sword chape, cast, three arched openings with incised vertical lines between. Knob terminal. Two rivet holes. Length 44m, width at open end 26mm.

1996. Metal detector finds.
Roman expanded foot from brooch, probably Aesica or bow and fantail. Flat section, double transverse groove at wider end, narrower end swells to rounded section and break. Angled catchplate on reverse. 1st century AD.
?Early post medieval end cap from knife, with remains of iron fixing pin.
