Summary

Fieldwalking in 1996 recovered prehistoric worked flints; a number of potentially prehistoric burnt flints; small quantities of Roman, medieval, post-medieval and post-medieval/modern pottery; a post-medieval clay tobacco pipe stem; post-medieval or later ceramic building material fragments; a piece of post-medieval or later vessel glass; an undated stone hone; fragments of slag and a small number of undatable metal objects.

January 1996. Fieldwalking Survey.
Field survey on route of Ormesby Bypass. Finds recovered included:
4 prehistoric flint flakes and 1 blade.
10 ?prehistoric burnt flints ('pot boilers').
1 Roman pottery sherd.
1 medieval pottery sherd.
7 post-medieval pottery sherd and 1 clay tobacco pipe stem.
5 post-medieval/modern pottery sherds.
4 post-medieval or later roof tiles, 3 pantiles, 11 brick fragments and 11 undiagnostic brick/tile fragments and fragment of vessel glass.
1 undated stone hone fragment, 3 slag fragments, 2 lead droplets and 21 iron objects.
