Map

The trackway discussed below has now been recorded separately as NHER 65795.

28 June 1990. NAU aerial photography.
Subcircular enclosure with ring ditch at centre.
D. Edwards (NAU).

These marks consist of a large irregular circle with a smaller circle inside - both very thin and not like a usual ring ditch - also several linear marks crossing at acute angles.
E. Rose (NLA) 26 January 1996.

15 July 1996. NLA aerial photography. NGR amended from TG 2275 2615.
Faint circular feature visible on aerial photographs - crop not really providing a response.
Site extended to include field to south, where a trackway appears to run into the unresponsive crop field.
S. Massey (NLA) 18 October 2001.

July 2022. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of a large outer ring ditch and a smaller inner ring ditch (see above) of a probable Bronze Age date are seen on aerial photographs (S1-S4). The ring ditches most likely relate to the site of a large Bronze Age round or disc barrow. The features are similar in size and form to another example of a possible Bronze Age disc barrow (see NHER 52285) recorded elsewhere in the county. Two pit features can be seen within the centre of the of the inner ring ditch. It is possible that these features may relate to burials. However, it is also possible that pits may relate to geological cropmarks which are seen across the area. It also been previously suggested (see above) that the ring ditches could also relate to a prehistoric sub circular enclosure, although this interpretation is less likely.
J. Powell (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 25 July 2022.
