Early Saxon figurine with silver wire possible suspension ring fragment (S3). The figurine is a copper alloy three-dimensional man wearing a cap or helmet with hands above his groin. These figures have been interperted as amuletic in function with possible links to pre-Christian deities. A growing corpus of this artefact type exists across East Anglia, with this figurine being heavily related to an example from Carlton Coleville, Suffolk.
The figurine was declared Treasure by association with the attached silver suspension ring fragment at inquest (Ref: 2018T183). See Unpublished Report (S4). It was subsequently acquired by Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2019.142).
Information from PAS import.
E. McDonald (HES), 18 May 2020. Amended by A. Beckham (HES), 4 August 2021.
