NHER 31849 (Building record) - Corner Farm House, King Row

House, comparatively isolated on edge of small hamlet. T-shaped, main block aligned northeast-southwest of two storeys, plastered, thatched roof with off-centre stack. Central wing projects southeast of flint and brick with pantile roof. Thatched roof burnt off 1995. Not listed.

Following report by [1] of timber frame being exposed, property was visited by E.Rose (NLA) 24 June 1996, but owners were absent.
From exterior, it could be seen that northeast gable wall contained a wallplate supported on two large arched braces (now in breezeblock walling). Adjacent to door in northwest wall, towards northeast end of house, are remains of an internal partition including studwork, bridging beam and what may be one of two service doors. Spine beam runs southwest from bridging beam. However, the northwest wall of the house is of clay lump. Nothing else could be seen. This may indicate that the house was originally timber framed on the three cell plan with two service rooms to northeast, dating to before the mid 17th century; the side walls must have been replaced in clay lump after about 1800 but how this relates to the flint wing, also of about 1800, is hard to say.
