Full Description
1946. RAF aerial photography.
Shows sub-rectangular enclosures as cropmarks.
1996. Notified by owner's son, whilst visiting adjacent site that pottery had been seen by him. Fifteen minutes fieldwalking produced nine sherds in 'tram lines' along east edge of field of sugar beet.
Six medieval unglazed.
One glazed Grimston.
Two late medieval/Transitional.
Identifications by A. Rogerson (NLA)
B. Cushion (NLA) August 1996.
Due to a cartographic error, sites NHER 2910 and 31933 occupy the same area of ground.
See NHER 2910 for main body of finds.
E. Rose (NLA) 26 May 1999.
October 2012. Norfolk NMP.
Aerial photographs taken in 1946 showed the cropmarks of several sub-rectangular enclosures at this location (S1-S3). The site is centred on TL 9576 9440, and consists of linear ditches which are visible as cropmarks and slight earthworks.
It is possible that they relate to medieval to post medieval enclosures or field boundaries. They have been recorded largely due to their location, in close proximity to the medieval moated site NHER 14456, but it is also possible that they represent post medieval drainage features and therefore are of more recent origin.
E. Ford (NMP), 25 October 2012.
