Summary

Metal detecting and field survey at this location in 1996 and 1998 recorded a range of multi period objects along with a pit filled with burnt calcined finds. A large scatter of post medieval pottery sherds suggest that the southern part of this area was a settlement site in this period. Post medieval coins of Elizabeth I and James I have also been found in this particular area.

Map

September 1996. Metal detecting.
One medieval coin.
See list in file.
A. Rogerson (NLA) 7 November 1996.

20 November 1998. Survey by A. Rogerson (NLA) and [1] and [2].
Rapid walk over part of field with winter ceralcover, good soil conditions with very poor (bright) light.
A ploughed over pit or depression and to the south a thin spread of burnt caleined finds and to south of that an area of post medieval pottery (Late medieval transitional ware, Glazed Red Earthenware and stoneware) and some brick fragments suggests a settlement site. The area was not defined by measurement, but certainly faded away in all directions. Coins of Elizabeth I and James I have been found in the immediate area by [2].
A. Rogerson (NLA), 23 November 1998.
