Summary

Metal detecting between 1996 and 1999 recovered a number of objects from the Roman to the post medieval period, including an Early Saxon brooch and a Saxon strap fitting. A fragment of a Late Bronze Age socketed axehead was also recovered, as well as a bow brooch that may have dated from the Iron Age or Roman period.

Chunky fragment of cast bronze, part of a curving object with uneven curve on the outer surface and tapering curve on the inner. Undecorated. ?A bead or spindlewhorl, ?date. Diameter not estimatable.

One Roman coin.
Tongue-shaped Early Saxon strap end made in two parts, joined by single bronze rivet at wider end which has decoration of groups of transverse grooves and the rest of the object has a slightly keeled profile. 6th or early 7th century.

Splayed sub-triangular terminal with punched triangular motifs around edge below double collar, from a Early Saxon small-long brooch. On reverse, next to fairly recent break, scar of solder with straight bottom edge.
