Summary

The cropmarks of a probable post medieval post mill are visible on aerial photographs. The feature had been previously interpreted as a possible Bronze Age ring ditch; however, recent (2020) aerial photographs show a cross shaped ditch feature in the centre of the ring ditch which most likely relates to the site of a former post medieval post mill.

February 2022. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of a probable post medieval post mill are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). However, recent (2020) aerial photographs (S2) show a cross shaped ditch feature in the centre of the ring ditch which most likely relates to the site of a former post medieval post mill. The feature is not visible on the readily available historic maps such as (S3). A small rectilinear pit feature is seen in close proximity which may relate to the mill site or possibly to a natural feature. The monument polygon has been amended to the extent of the feature as seen on (S2).

The mapped location of this record has been slightly corrected to reflect the position of the mapped cropmarks.
