Summary

Metal-detecting between 1995 and 2009 recovered prehistoric worked flints including a Mesolithic flaked flint axe/adze; a Neolithic flint scraper and polished axehead; medieval to post-medieval pottery sherds; medieval roof tile and window glass fragments; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons and tokens and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval ampulla, a box, latch lifter, statuette, padlock, ring, part of a scabbard, a seal matrix, thimble, weight, copper alloy vessel fragment and metal working debris; a medieval/post-medieval weight and post-medieval bells, a coin weight, furniture fitting, harness mount, powder measure, ring, seal, spur, stud, thimble and copper alloy vessel fragment.

1995. Metal detecting. Finds from two fields each side of Old Womans Lane. Finds not kept separate.
1) Neolithic and prehistoric flints. See identification (S1) by P. Robins (NCM) in file, 16 November 1996.
2) Medieval: vessel frags, strap ends, buckles and plates, double hooked fastener, window came, dagger chape, barrel padlock, brooch or suspension ring, possible casket mount, possible medieval bronze waste.
3) Three medieval sherds, includes sagging base and green glazed Grimston. Early post medieval buckle, harness mount and cloth seal.
4) Post medieval: suspension ring, buckle, thimbles, cloth seals, buttons, dress fittings, drawer back plate, possible strainer and lead loop.

3 ?medieval limestone roof tile fragments.
1 medieval/post-medieval pottery sherd (Raeren/Aachen stoneware), 3 buckles (S3), and 1 lead weight.
6 post-medieval coins, 1 token, 1 jetton, 1 pottery sherd (Frechen stoneware), 1 harness mount, 1 saddle pommel, 2 copper alloy buttons and 1 lead alloy button.
