Summary

A type 22 Second World War pillbox survives as an extant structure and has been visited on the ground. It is also visible on aerial photographs. It is located to the south of what is now the A47 but at the time would have been the line of the Great Eastern (Lynn and Dereham) railway (NHER 13600). It was presumably sited to overlook the junction of the railway with the road between Dereham and Scarning. On 1940s aerial photographs a probable Second World War slit trench can be seen as an earthwork (since levelled) a few metres to the east of the pillbox (NHER 68862) and the two were presumably associated. The pillbox was visited on the ground in 1995 but remains visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs from 2022.
