A series of World War Two practice trenches are visible on Morley Hill to the south of Sheringham. These can be seen on RAF 1946 aerial photographs (S1 to S2). Many of these trenches are interlinked and each runs zigzagging for between about 15m and 105m (with most being between 30m and 55m in length).
There is no sign of a pillbox on the available 1946 photography. It is possible that the remains that were thought to be a pillbox were actually something to do with these trenches. (As there is no sign of it on these photographs it seems unlikely to have been a pillbox - although this is not certain).
H. Clare (NMP), 23 June 2003.
