A World War Two Allan Williams turret gun emplacement is recorded at this location on the cliffs to the west of Cromer. In aerial photograph from 1953 at TG 2106 4243 is a small turret-like structure, 2m across, poking out of the ground surface (S2). These remains would be consistent with an Allan Williams emplacement, although this structure is not as clearly visible on earlier aerial photographs (S2 and S4). In 1941 a small feature is visible at this location (S3), possibly semi-camouflaged. This emplacement is situated on the western edge of an area of World War Two military defences and slit trenches (NHER 38877). A group of potentially existing buildings visible on contemporary aerial photographs (NHER 38883), located to the immediate west, may also have been incorporated into the military activity and training on the cliffs to the West of Cromer.
S. Massey (NMP), 19 October 2004.
