A World War Two type 20 pillbox and a spigot mortar emplacement are located on the south western edge of Howards Hill, Cromer (S2 and S3). These defences forms part of larger area of World War Two defences and military training features on Howards Hill (NHER 38910), which includes a variety of slit trenches, barbed wire obstructions and two additional pillboxes (NHER 31542 and 32574).
The site is centred on TG 2084 4202. The type 20 pillbox is located at TG 2084 4202 and is 4m square with a blast wall to the south. The spigot mortar emplacement previously recorded at this site is harder to distinguish on the aerial photographs due to the vegetation and the relative size of these features. However 10m to the east of the pillbox a circular feature, sitting within an area of disturbed ground, is visible. It is assumed that this is the location of the spigot mortar emplacement. Several other pits and trenches surround these defences and are recorded as part of NHER 38910.
