Summary

A World War Two spigot mortar emplacement has been recorded as a structure and earthwork on the southwest side of Wayford Bridge. The pedestal has been identified on the ground and the emplacement may also be visible on aerial photographs. The site forms part of a larger group of World War Two anti-invasion defences surrounding the bridge, which as a river crossing was clearly a location of strategic importance.
