Summary

Brewery founded in 1640 and closed in 1968. Partial excavations in 1997 prior to the building of a supermarket recovered fragments of Late Saxon pottery. Also found were the remains of medieval and post medieval buildings, some with cellars.

NIAS records.
Brewery founded on Church Plain in 1640, was aquired by Lacons in 1760, taken over by Whitbreadss & Co Ltd in 1965. The brewery closed in 1968.
