Full Description
28 January 1997. Fieldwalking of land between river and railway. According to source [1] this is the site of Otteringhythe deserted village, and not Methwold Hythe as previously supposed. A church is recorded at Otteringhythe but no traces of this were found. (see also NHER 22053, with extract from Batcock.)
Three sherds recovered; two unglazed medieval, one handmade prehistoric, perhaps Iron Age.
Identified by A. Rogerson (NLA) - compare adjacent site NHER 5618.

Evidence for village site is in (S1).
Plan in file.
E. Rose (NLA), 7 April 1997.

An area of surviving earthworks potentially representing an area of medieval settlement have been recorded in this area, see NHER 61993. However an earlier Roman date is also considered a possibility.
S. Horlock (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 5th March 2017.
