A World War Two pillbox is visible on contemporary and later aerial photographs (S1 to S5). This pillbox was located at TG 51945 12725 on the east side of Ormesby Road at Caister on Sea.
This pillbox had asymmetrical hexagonal plan and appears to have been a type 24. It was positioned in the corner of a field beside the road. It faced towards the northeast, rather than directly north up the road, with its entrance on the southwest side. This was one of a pair of type 24 pillboxes positioned on the north side of Caister village to defend the Ormesby Road approach into the village. The other pillbox survives and is located 180m to the southwest (NHER 32674).
The pillbox adjacent to Ormesby Road is not present on aerial photographs dated to February 1941 but was probably was constructed shortly afterwards (S6). The earliest aerial photographs showing this pillbox date to May 1944 (S1). At that time it was camouflaged with a pitched roof (S1 to S3). This roof had been removed by July 1946 (S4). The pillbox survived until at least 1955 (S5) after which it was demolished.
