Summary

In about 1940 a pillbox was built on the northern side of the A11. The army agreed it should be demolished in May 1943, although the demolition date is uncertain. It is still visible on aerial photographs in 1946. A second pillbox is visible to the south on Besthorpe Road.

The pillbox described above is visible on aerial photographs until 1946 (S1-S2), centred at TM 0537 9589. A second possible pillbox is visible on the same aerial photographs at TM 0589 9566, and a possible railblock at TM 0545 9528, although this is uncertain.
