Summary

Jewson's Barn is a late 18th or early 19th century barn. It is built of brick, has ventilation slits and cart doors and contains reused medieval stonework. The southwestern part of the barn is a now cottage; this section was converted in about 1860. In 1999 an evaluation excavation revealed two medieval pits and Late Saxon and medieval pottery sherds were collected.

Barn.
Brick with ventilation slits, cart doors and inserted 20th century windows. Outshut dated 1797, similar to plinth of barn
containing reused medieval stonework. Other parts barn probably slightly later brick. Roof with collars and four orders wedge tenoned butt purlins; tiebeams were between trusses, arch braced and wallposts on corbels. Arched braces to plate in south east cart door. At southwest end, a cottage, probably formed by converting one end of the barn and infilling a second pair of cart doors, the southeast of which still has its arched braces visible, in about 1860.
