Summary

Metal-detecting in 1997 and between 2011 and 2013 recovered Roman coins as well as Roman, Early Saxon and Late Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Roman lead steelyard weight; Early Saxon brooches, wrist clasps and a hooked fastener; a Late Saxon strap-end; a Late Saxon to post-medieval lead spindle whorl and a medieval buckle. Systematic fieldwalking by NAU in 2000 recovered a prehistoric flint flake; fragments of Roman, Late Saxon and post-medieval pottery and medieval tile. The Early Saxon finds recovered are probably related to an adjacent Early Saxon cemetery (NHER 32340).
