Summary

Metal detecting at this location in 1996 recovered a Roman cosmetic pestle as well as several medieval metalwork pieces. The finest medieval item was a horse harness pendant in the shape of an eight-point star with the fleur-de-lis decoration quartered with lions.

Full Description

1996. Metal detecting finds.
Roman cosmetic mortar with central loop and simple knobbed terminals. Polaroid (S1) taken by NCM.
Medieval vessel rim fragment with small handle lug.
Harness/strap fitting - loop with conical spike. Polaroid (S2) taken by NCM

1996. Metal detecting finds.
Medieval horse harness pendant in the shape of an eight-point star with the top point extended to form the loop. ?? decoration of the arms of France Ancient (fleur-de-lis) quartered with the arms of England (lions). Arms current from 1340-1400. Drawing (S3) in file.
Medieval gilded Limoges-style buckle frame decorated with panels of rocker arm engraving. Pin bar missing.
