Summary

Work in 1997 and 1998 in advance of the construction of a reservoir recovered a number of worked or burnt flints and pot boilers, as well as a small number of medieval and post medieval pottery sherds. Metal-detecting in 2011 recovered a medieval coin.

October 1997. Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey and Desk-Based Assessment.
Archaeological work by RPS Clouston Ltd in advance of reservoir. The fieldwalking and metal-detector survey recovered:
3 Mesolithic/Early Neolithic flint blades.
1 Late Neolithic/Bronze Age retouched flake, 1 notched flake, 1 end scraper, 2 hollow scrapers (1 made on thermal flake) and 38 unmodified flakes
1 ?Bronze Age or later scraper, 1 end scraper and 1 side scraper (all made on thermal flakes).
Post-medieval/modern tile fragments, iron nail and other metalwork.
Potboilers found by D. Gurney (NLA) when visiting site.

2 Roman, 2 medieval & 2 post-medieval coins, Early Saxon brooch, medieval horse harness pendant, mount, strap end, medieval/post-medieval hooked fastener, rung, vessel, candlestick, & post-medieval sherd, harness mount, purse bar, buckle, button and crotal bell.
