Medieval annular brooch, pin missing. Small, decorated with annular stamps on one side only of flat-section ring. Slight pin constriction. External diameter of 20mm.
Identified by H. Geake (NCM).
A. Rogerson (NLA) 29 November 1997.

November 1997. Metal detector find.
Rather corroded Roman enamelled disc or tutulus brooch of unusual hybrid type. Small (about 26mm diameter without lugs) with a central cone with a small knob at the apex, it has a wide, grooved border with raised edge. This edge carries four of an original six small lugs, two of which concealed the double pin hinge and the catchplate. Pin survives, rather squashed, on reverse. Tutulus brooches are normally either small and conical, or larger flat-topped and with lugs. Late 1st or 2nd century.
See (S1) nos. 1576 and 539 for similar examples.
Polaroid held by NCM.
A. Rogerson (NLA) 2 January 1998.

April 2000. Metal detecting.
Roman brooch and seal box lid, found 90cm (1yd) apart.
See list in file.
A. Rogerson (NLA) 5 June 2000.
