Full Description
December 1997. Letter from a friend of owner indicated a possible moated site.
Visit indicates a substantial ditch is west boundary of garden, originally linking pond to north. May well have extended to east as a common edge boundary, being the west and north side of Bush Green. However, Fair View is said by owner to have been dated by UEA or Historic Buildings to 15th century, with later additions, it is essentially a two-cell timber framed house (Listed Building description says 17th century).
Pottery in garden thus indicates a possible early encroachment onto common, as the site does not look a true moated enclosure.
Pottery identified by A. Rogerson (NLA):
Medieval unglazed - one rim, bowl?, one base, two body sherds.
Late medieval or Transitional body sherd.
B. Cushion (NLA), 17 December 1997.
