Full Description
1987. Metal-detecting.
Found at Bergh Apton by [1]:
1 Early Saxon blue bead.
This object was subsequently purchased by [2] and then donated to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1994.167). Also donated was an Early Saxon wrist clasp from Bergh Apton that [2] had also acquired from [1]. See copy of photograph and notes in file [3].
It was intially thought that these two objects may be finds that were shown to the NCM in 1989 and recorded as NHER 29149. This was disproved by an examination of polaroids taken of the 1989 finds. The wrist clasp was however found to be one of a number of Early Saxon objects that were examined in 1987 and recorded as NHER 24171. It does not appear that the bead was amongst the objects from this site so its exact provenance remains uncertain.
E. Rose (NLA) 23 December 1997. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 23 August 2016.
